Anytown USA

/rɪˈpʌb lɪk/ Pronunciation Key Republic [ri-puhb-lik]

  1. a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.
  2. any body of persons viewed as a commonwealth.

It seems as if almost overnight, a green jobs and careers movement has spawned in the U.S. of A.

Originating like a flashpoint in Oakland, California, with the organization Green for All   and their many partners, it has invigorated communities amongst the growing destitution of a country suffering what appears to be a crises-level economic downturn. It aims to send a loud and proud message to the Presidential candidates in what many say is the United States' most important election ever.

This Saturday September 27th, a first-of-its-kind event is being launched across the States: The Green Jobs Now National Day of Action  . This isn't to be taken lightly, and is not just another Earth Day, though Earth Day is special because of what it has helped create. No, this is the announcement of something incredible happening in America right now, and if there's anything America likes being, it's incredible. This is the people getting out to talk about the economy and the cure for its current woes; green jobs. Interestingly, a counter-weight is being launched the same day, in the form of Newt Gingrich's "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" campaign. It is essentially an industry-pitch to the American people to support continued dependence on fossil fuel use for energy. Obviously, only one of these campaigns is motivated by the impending effects of climate change.

"Green Jobs Now is happening the day after the first Presidential Debate," said Josh Lynch, Organizer for the Green Jobs Now Day of Action. "People all over the country are planning teach-ins, block parties, service events, and celebratory rallies for September 27th. The events will show the diversity that is America, but everyone will have the same message for Obama and McCain: Green Jobs Now."
