Local people join a national Green Jobs day of Action this Saturday to organize the community and show leaders that we are ready to tackle the climate crisis by building a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.
According to Nathanial Doyno, of Steel City Biofuels, this movement has become even more important and relevant in light of the current economic crisis. "The economic turmoil of this week powerfully demonstrates the necessity to invest in both new technology and in our communities. A strong green jobs investment strategy will help protect our economy from both national and global economic turmoil, while creating long term environmental and energy viability.”
The Green jobs movement has a special focus on low income communities and communities of color. The strategy not only addresses the climate crisis with real solutions, but provides path ways out of poverty and promises to revitalize inner cities.
“The climate crisis gives us an opportunity to address the environmental and economic challenges we face as a nation and a world,” stated Khari Mosley, National Field and Policy Director for the League of Young Voters. “I see green jobs as vehicle to save our climate and rebuild the economies of cities like Pittsburgh that have lost hundreds of thousands of industrial jobs since the collapse of big steel.”
