WASHINGTON, DC ADVISORY: Get Going, Go Green, Green Jobs Now
Sep 23, 2008WASHINGTON, DC----“East of the River has longed been neglected and overlooked,” says Jackie Ward, Vice Chair of the Ward 8 Environmental Council. “It’s time for change.”
On September 27th, 2008, the Ward 8 Environmental Council, Jobs Coalition, Service Nation, the Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light, the Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network is working with Green for All, Al Gore’s We Campaign and 1 sky to host the Get Going, Go Green, Green Jobs Now event in Southeast, Washington DC.
The Get Going, Go Green, Green Jobs Now event will educate, encourage and empower people to promote the creation of a strong green economy that will help to save the planet and the people. The event will incorporate a neighborhood beautification service project on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, a Green jobs fair, and a rally. The rally will include Green Jobs Now petition signing, voter registration, musical performances and speeches by local and national leaders of the green jobs movement, such as DC Mayor, Adrian Fenty, the Jobs Coalition President, Anthony Motley and many more.
Irv Sheffey, Environmental Justice Organizer for the Sierra Club says that, “…our action on September 27th 2008 and beyond can bring about a fundamental change in the quality of our lives---socially, economically and environmentally.”
The Sierra Club, Green for All, the Energy Action Coalition, 1sky, Al Gore’s We Can Solve it, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, the Environmental Justice Climate Change Initiative and hundreds of other organizations are coming together on September 27th to make clear to our leaders that we are ready to build an inclusive green economy, strong enough to lift people out of poverty and solve the climate crisis.
